Benedict Moran is an award-winning journalist and independent filmmaker.

He has directed, reported, and produced for The Guardian, PBS Frontline, The New Yorker, Newshour, National Geographic, Al Jazeera, VICE News, the Christian Science Monitor, Foreign Policy, National Public Radio, CBC News, Public Radio International, France24, and others.

He has traveled and worked in more than 80 countries, including with fellowship support from the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting, the European Journalism Center, the International Reporting Project, and  The Brown Institute for Media Innovation, a joint collaboration between Stanford and Columbia Universities.

He was the silver medal winner (2019) of the Ricardo Ortega Memorial Prize, and gold medal winner (2015) of The Elizabeth Neuffer Memorial Prize for written media, from the United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA). He was an official artist of the 2016 New York Television Festival, and a fellow at the inaugural Sundance Institute Youtube New Voices Episodic Storytelling Lab.

Benedict worked as a news producer for Al Jazeera America and was the United Nations and diplomatic producer for Al Jazeera English. He earned his bachelor’s degree from McGill University in Montreal, and a Masters of Science in Journalism and a Masters of International Affairs from Columbia University. Prior to journalism, Benedict was an aid worker in Benin, West Africa, and Darfur, Sudan.
